An earthquake with a strength of
5.1 on the Richter scale occurred in Banten Province, on Wednesday (24/01)
afternoon, or a day after a similar incident shook the same area.
Based on data from the
Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter was 72
kilometers southwest of Lebak, Banten, with a depth of 42 kilometers.
The earthquake took place at 1:35
p.m.
Ubaidilah Mochtar, as the head of
the Multatuli Museum in Rangkasbitung, admitted that the earthquake was felt,
but "the conditions were much quieter than yesterday's earthquake".
The city of Rangkasbitung is the capital of Lebak Regency, Banten Province,
which is closest to the epicenter of the earthquake.
"There was no panic in the
residents. Offices were also safe and there were no employees to come
out," he told BBC Indonesia.
The day before, an earthquake
measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck 81 kilometers west of Lebak at a
depth of 61 km under the sea.
Data from the National Disaster
Management Agency recorded the consequences of the disaster, as many as 129
houses were damaged in 10 sub-districts namely Bayah, Wanasalam, Cilograng,
Panggarangan, Lebak Gedong, Sobang, Cimarga, Sajira, Cihara and Rinten
districts. In Pandeglang there is a CMBBS High School Hall Pandeglang collapsed
and several houses have been damaged, there were no fatalities.
Overall, in Banten there were 115
damaged houses, 1 damaged mosque and 1 damaged health center.
Meanwhile, in West Java Province,
there are a number of districts affected.
In Bogor Regency, as many as 13
housing units were damaged, located in Kolot, Pekancilan and Kuta Villages.
In Cianjur Regency as many as 6
students were seriously injured and 2 students were slightly injured due to
being hit by a tile that collapsed at Tenggeung Vocational School in Tanggeung
Sub-District, Cianjur Regency, West Java. There is also one heavily damaged
house in the village of Tanggeung and one heavily damaged house in the village
of Pagermaneuh.
In Sukabumi District there were 9
houses with minor damage, 1 house was moderately damaged, 1 mosque was badly
damaged, and 2 public health facilities were slightly damage.
